Day 1. CINEMA EXPERIENCE: IRATI JUNGLE, RONCAL AND SALAZAR VALLEYS

In the first place we will go through Orbaizeta and Saragüeta (Valle de Arce): a small town located in the Pyrenees that is made up of a few hamlets arranged around the square and a fountain with two spouts that emanate water from nearby springs. Close to Orreaga/Roncesvalles and the Irati Forest, it forms part of the Arce Valley.

"Broken Silence" (2001): by director Montxo Armendáriz, presents us with a story of love and maquis in postwar Spanish times. The film stars Lucía Jiménez, Juan Diego Botto, Mercedes Sampietro and Álvaro de Luna. During filming, 200 people came to the small town of Saragüeta for 2 months of recording. Throughout the film, scenes appear in Orbaitzeta and in the Arce Valley. The Saragüeta square, unpaved at the time, is faithfully reflected when the protagonist arrives in town and meets up with childhood friends.

We will continue towards Sierra de Abodi: a massif covered with grasslands that surrounds the Selva de Irati, one of the most spectacular beech-fir forests in Europe. The presence of numerous dolmens highlights the pastoral antiquity of the area.

"Biutiful" (2010): is a portrait of the life of Uxbal (Javier Bardem), a selfless father and helpless son, who, feeling that death is around him, tries to find peace, protect his children and save himself. He has received 1 silver frame and 1 Goya for best actor. The protagonist appears walking through the Sierra de Abodi nevada (Abodi Nordic Ski Resort), in a daydream he has before he dies. Secretos del Corazón was filmed in Ochagavía: It is located to the north of the Salazar valley next to the imposing Selva de Irati, it is one of the most picturesque villages in the Navarrese Pyrenees, it is characterized by its medieval bridge, its cobbled streets and its well-kept houses located both sides of the Anduña river.

"Secretos del corazón" (1997): by director Montxo Armendáriz, with Carmelo Gómez, Andoni Erburu, Charo López and Silvia Munt in the cast, recount the fear and fascination for the unknown from the eyes of a 9-year-old boy. She has been awarded 1 Blue Angel, 4 Goyas and 1 Ondas award. Scenes in Ochagavía are recognizable, when the two protagonist brothers arrive and are reunited with their mother who is impatiently waiting for them, and also locations in Pamplona and Uztárroz.

Roncal Valley: green and steep Pyrenean valley located on the border with France, made up of 7 beautiful villages where stone and gabled roofs reign. The DO cheese. Roncal, traditions such as the Día de la Almadía, sports such as cross-country skiing or untamed landscapes such as Larra-Belagua, are some of the distinctive marks of the place.

"Obaba" (2005): directed by Montxo Armendáriz and starring Juan Diego Botto, Pilar López de Ayala and Lluis Homar, among others, tells the story of a young woman who embarks on a journey to the lands of Obaba. He carries with him a small video camera with which he wants to capture the reality of that world and its people. He received 1 Goya for the best sound. Obaba is the name of a Pyrenean town recreated from towns such as Uztárroz, Ochagavía and Roncal, where the life of its inhabitants unfolds with a nod to past traditions.

IMPORTANT NOTES

COVID-19 PROTOCOL
- We must bear in mind that we are going to rural areas and that we have to respect the established protocols at all times and with great scruple. The local population may have some fear and suspicion that people from outside their territory can bring the virus to them. With what we have to be very respectful with them and with the protocols.
