From the first Roman settlement, the extension of the city gave rise to the configuration of the oldest nucleus in what is now La Navarrería. In the 11th century, also because of this strategic location, with the consolidation of the Jacobean Route, when Pamplona acquired a fundamental role as a host city or hostel for pilgrims, which attracted a large number of merchants and artisans who soon tried to settle outside from the city walls.
The founding differences between the city of Navarrería, Burgo de San Cernin and the town of San Nicolás were resolved in 1423 when the Privilege of the Union was enacted, forming a single city and a single walled enclosure, which was completed in the middle of the 16th century, turning Pamplona into a military square.
